Massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude shook South Asia

21:20: hrs An estimate from the United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) PAGER algorithm shows about 1,000 may have been killed in Monday’s earthquake.

21:05 hrs Plan International’s country director for Pakistan, Rashid Javed, says 'After an earthquake like this, access to clean water and proper sanitation are vital. People also need to be aware of the dangers of aftershocks, especially as they are being repeatedly felt across the region.'

20:45 hrs The Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, tweeted about a conversation he had with the president of Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani, 'I offered all possible assistance'.

20:01 hrs At least 180 people killed in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Inayatullah Khan, Pakistan’s provincial minister, told the death toll from the earthquake in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province alone has has jumped to 121.

19:40 hrs Pakistani TV says 94 people have died due to the earthquake in Afghanistan, bringing the region-wide toll to 129. Another two people died in Kashmir region.

18:45 hrs According to Reuters at least 100 people have been killed in the earthquake. These include 24 in Afghanistan and 76 in neighboring Pakistan.

18:30 hrs According to an Iranian news agency -Tasnim News Agency- Government of Iran it is ready to send aid and rescue teams to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

18:05 hrs The Chief Executive of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, has said that the earthquake was 'the strongest one felt in recent decades'. 

18:00 hrs Reports coming in that 70 dead in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
